So Proud of Jorge getting 2nd in the jury, Wish Portugal all the best but with this i cant see much success
I said I would translate this if it was to win as I like the lyrics so here they go: If someday someone asks for me Tell them that I lived to love you Before you I only existed tired, and with nothing to give My love, listen to my prayers, I ask you to return That you want me again I know you can't love alone Maybe slowly you can learn it once again My love, listen to my prayers I ask to return, that you want me again I know you can't love alone Maybe slowly you can learn it once again If your heart doesn't want to give in Doesn't feel the passion, doesn't want to suffer Without making plans of what is yet to come My heart can love for both of us
I have seen the voting from my bed, couldn't sleep. I noticed that almost all the juries gave low votes to the English song, with exception of Algarve. Maybe their vision is not to see how to get succes in Kiev, but to select a decent traditional Portuguese song. The 12 of televote was also a bit strange.
Well, I expected he'd win. I guess it's not the worst song so far in its semi but I don't know who would vote for this. Hope I'm wrong.
Think id have preferred viva to win instead and thats saying something lol, I think last night showed Portugal arnt keen on English songs representing them, 2 fails in the semi and the one left flopped last night. One plus point is we get to hear Portuguese in may but apart from a few juries i cant see where this will pick up points.
The song is doing very well in the betting odds, so, we're probably missing something (wouldn't be the first time..lol) as many fans are talking about Portugal's best resut ever!
I'm not sure where to place this in terms of results. I could, with all the appraisal it's getting, see it going in the direction of Anouk's Birds. Also a song without a real hook to it, but did rather well. I'm not ruling Amar Pelos Dois out of qualification.
If I had to compare it to a song I would compare it to Cyprus 2015, a song under the same style that everyone was saying it would not qualify yet still managed to do so. As for the Odds we are up to (somehow) 7th overall and still climbing, most of the portuguese seem to be not quite trust it yet but the out of the country fans see to like it quite a bit and are comparing it to the likes of kedvesen kulla and suus, as in songs not in english that surprised in the final specially thanks to the juries. We will see how it goes but I would be very happy with a qualification and then whatever would come even if last.
The thing is, if it really picks up traction and manages to stay this high with bookmakers (or rise even further), there will be more attention and that's what every song needs. I really hope it qualifies.
Yes, there's always that one song that many people think it will do better than it actually does. On the other hand, many songs do exactly as predicted or close to it, anyway. The only way I can see Portugal missing the final is if juries vote for modern songs and ignore this since, vocally, it's not really a song that shows voice (like Australia last year).
I think this is so different it will be memorable, rather than fade into oblivion. They need me to stage it - I can just see it...
This is very classic, elegant and delicate, So relaxing to hear, Amazing choice portugal, just love the song....
On an interview with the composer the singer and the RTP director several things were announced, the song will be kept in Portuguese, there will be no revamp as people seem to like the simplicity of it, and, given how much this year song has been doing in Portugal (no 1 in itunes, 1st trending in youtube and 1st in the singles chart) they also confirmed participation next year. Ill try to translate it: LuĂsa Sobral tells that she wrote the song already thinking on her brothers voice and reveals there will be no changes to the song that will be presented in Kiev. It will also remain in Portuguese "What worked on this song, besides the presentation of my brother, was exactly it's simplicity. We like simple songs with great harmonies. And Singing in English would not make sense for this song. The way he sings, the melody the harmony are beyond the language barrier. Plus, based on the youtube comments, many foreigners say they like the song even without understanding the lyrics. Portuguese gives the song a special sonority. We are proud of our language." says the 29 year old composer. Salvador's victory on the Festival was few days after the singer was under a surgery due to an umbilical hernia being still in recover, Salvador said "The doctor and nurses said I wouldn't be able to do it on Sunday but I did it! It was one of the most difficult physical things I ever went trough. I've been trough a lot of pain in Saturday and Sunday, but when I'm in the stage, the adrenaline is so much that everything goes away." Daniel Deusdado, program director in RTP doesn't have any doubt: "The winning song shows strength on the social media and shows the turn of FdC we wanted. We don't have any illusions when it comes to ESC results, but that is only the second most important thing, the first is to have a song with quality and be well represented, and that we have." he also mention that the overall result of FdC was positive and promises more songs for 2018 " We are very satisfied on how things went. Next year there will be another Festival. And, likely, under the same circumstances of this year, but it is too early to talk about that."
Is our participation at risk? Sadly today we got some bad news. According to several newspapers and magazines Salvador has some serious health problems and is waiting for an urgent heart transplant. As we all know he had already a surgery after the semis to remove not one but 2 hernias and now news say it's far worse than that. The situation is serious enough for them to put it as a threatening life condition and that he needs to transplant the fastest possible and that it needs to be before the end of the year or it will be fatal. They also advance that he wears large clothes to hide the fact he is using a sort of package on his back that works as a pacemaker to help the heart beating. His agent has not denied or confirmed the situation but said his Eurovision performance is not at risk. RTP, the singer or his sister have not said anything regarding the issue yet. Salvador was invited to perform in the ESC parties in Holland, Israel and France but turned them down saying he was with health problems and wanted to recover to be 100% ready for Kiev.
